American Idol started it all, a phenomenon which raked millions of viewers from all over the world. What a show eh? Anybody who’s anybody tuned in on their TV sets, waiting for talents like Sway Penala and yeah William Hung to perform. What can I say, they reached their target and been successful for 5 seasons already (five?).
Now, about Philippine Idol…
ay nakow… Unlike it’s imported counterpart, uu blue seal ika-nga, I really didn’t felt its presence. Uhm wait meron din kasi yung kapit-bahay namin sa ABC5 nagtratrabaho, they printed a Philippine Idol on a piece of bond-paper and taped it face-up inside the rear-windshield of their van (egh). Yup, no growl, no THUMP nor UGH no nothing.
Why? First reason in mind is what Kaisip Rickey blogged a couple of weeks ago. MASA! You hafta get the Luuuuvvv of the MASA. Marketer’s POV, more than half the Pinoy population is on the Class M (hehe). Second, to watch a TV Show you need 3 things: a TV Set, a signal from a particular TV station where the “show” is airing and electricity (and a Lazyboy + Popcorn and soda + a footspa machine to top it all up, :D). What are these gotta do with it? August, I went to Cebu, Dumaguete, Bacolod & Iloilo and guess what’s missing? CHANNEL 5 (or ABC5 for that matter).

retz: Hello is dis da prantdesk?
prant opis: Yes sir, how may I help you?
retz: Yes, I’m habing trabol with the Telebisyong… is der any local channel available on cable?
prant opis: Yes sir ABS-CBN and GMA
retz: how about abc5?
prant opis: yes we have it on channel 33
retz: **click** uhm miss this is NBC
prant opis: yes sir
retz: I’m talking about ABC, the one with Philippine Idol
prant opis: Philippine what? ABC? uhm sir I dont think we have that..
retz: uhm ok, thanks anyway **click**Arirang channel**
and this is a true story…… 3-times it happened, hahaha.
They (ABC5) didn’t even consider on how will they reach viewers from the different islas of the country. Crap! Try this: get ye old rabbit ears (your TV’s telescopic antenna), pull the cabletv’s plug and channel surf the old fashioned way (aerial antenna). Then check the local channels your TV could receive.
Mine shows:
• ABS-CBN (grainy) oo ABS malabo ang signal nyo lalo’t 6pm at oo maski naka-cable ako.
• GMA (Wall to wall - very clear
)
• ABC5 (snowstorm to none)
• Studio 23 (clear)
• Qtv (clear)
• Net25 (grainy)
• PTV 4 (it barely made a scratch on my screen)
• IBC 13 (parang mumu)
• RPN 9 (like IBC)
Same results while on teh bus. Yung may Video On Board ba. Susme.
Wrrrapping it up, what’s so special about Philippine Idol? Finals na! Akalain mo?
Ikaw nanonood ka ba nito? Leave ka lang ng comment…

I have been a follower of American Idol and Philippine Idol. I don’t want to be really hard-hitting but I am terribly DISAPPOINTED with the handling of local franchise for several reasons:
1. RYAN AGONCILLO is a poor choice for host. Cute face? Yes. Good emcee? Forget it. He was reading spiels without understanding what is going on. Lots of booboos. C’mon, KC Montero could have done this better even without reading scripts.
2. THE DIZZYING TV SCHEDULE CHANGES. Very annoying. Will the show start at 8pm? 830pm? 9pm? 930pm? Or has it started early at 730pm and nobody nows except the people at SM Megamall? And then they are moving the main show again on Sundays and results night to Mondays, from the original Saturday performance night and Sunday results night. Parang merry-go-round ang schedule.
3.HEART EVANGELISTA. Is she really needed? Wala namang ganito sa American Idol. Female co-host on a different time slot? I find this weird.
4. VANISHING ABC5 TV SIGNAL. Go southward and only GMA-7 is available on your ordinary TV antenna. Very annoying. If you have cable or satellite TV, maybe. But millions of regular pinoys don’t have cable or satellite TV, especially in the rural areas. So are you going to expect people fom far flung areas to vote?
kailangan mo na ng baron super antenna
finals na pla? AKALAIN MO? .. haha .. eh wla man lng akng kilala sknla eh … tsktsk ..
cguro kng asa siete or dos yan, tiyak, papatok yan ..
what’ya think?
1)there’s something special on philippine idol, the contestants. they have the best performers (apple, mau, arms, reymond, gian). the problem is in the tv reception and not the program.
2)there are only few audience: family of the contestants, fans of the guest judge, reporters..media..etc..
4) why few audience? the mere fact that ABC 5 is not as BIG and as popular as the 2 leading stations (gma and abs), filipinos tend to think that it’s(Phil idol) corny (bah, mentality of imbeciles).
5)being a fan of someone because of the station where he resides is a very bad filipino trait. ~no offense ok?
6) the main point: not because Philippine Idol is on abc it’s not good anymore but in the contrary, not because it’s from the trademark of American Idol, it would better, but it could still be! and i think it is..
my conclusion: there are so many underrated filipino singers not just because they don’t sound like international singers (lolz, originality is a plus..sighs*), also because they dont look good. eg. rosita, jonalyn viray, frenchie dy, mau.. poor BETTER singers..
Hi!!! i didn’t know that there is Philippine Idol already in our country. Really don’t know. I love watching american and Canadian Idol but to my dismay, they put it in the wrong channel. Why? when I’m still there, there is no signal of ABC5, how can they reach their viewers? Just update your station, for sure, you’ll get more you deserve.
