Little Big Star Set - taken June 28, 2006 by Retz
From my entry Pinoy Koreanovela Reality TV Fantaserye Game Shows, I’ve thrown in a couple of “what if’s” regarding Pinoy Dream Academy & Pinoy Big Brother. And I have partially predicted what might happen to other ABS-CBN Talent search:
> PDA vs. ABS’s other talent search - la na ako ma-say, lahat sasagasaan. Bye Star Circle Quest. Hehehe.
from entry Pinoy Dream Academy
Bitin News:
So, it might be goodbye to Little Big Star, Star in a Million, Close-up to Fame, and others. Yes folks “if ever” Pinoy Dream Academy tops the ratings like *heck*, we might have just seen the last season of Pinoy Big Brother which ended last May (Teen Edition). Though most say PBB’s almost like a Talent-Search-Show, ABS might also cut the show’s budget.
ABS-CBN gives way to ‘Pinoy Dream Academy’
ABS-CBN is doing away with all its other talent search programs to give way to “Pinoy Dream Academy,” set to premiere in August. The new show, which is another franchise of the network from Endemol (same producers of “Big Brother” and “Deal or No Deal”) is expected to go head-on with ABC 5’s “Philippine Idol” and ABS-CBN is leaving no stones unturned to ensure the success of “Pinoy Dream Academy.”
It is also for this reason that ABSCBN will forego its shows like “Search for Star in a Million,” “Star Circle Quest” and even “Pinoy Big Brother” (which will be held in March 2007). Even “Little Big Star,” hosted by Sarah Geronimo, will conclude next month apparently to give way to “Pinoy Dream Academy.”
To be aired nightly starting August, “Pinoy Dream Academy” will see the participants contained also in the same house as “Pinoy Big Brother,” but this time with a recording studio, a dance rehearsal hall, a classroom and even a principal’s office. Construction is now ongoing on the vacant lot beside the “PBB” house, to house the additional rooms
However, unlike “Pinoy Big Brother” where the housemates have no communication with the outside world (no newspapers, no computers, no watch, no cellphones), the performers in “Pinoy Dream Academy” will get to interact with celebrities who will train them to perform (read: sing and dance) and visit them in the house. The performers will also have voice coaches and dance instructors.
The students in “Pinoy Dream Academy” will also get to go out of the house to buy their supplies like food for 100 days. But there will also be eviction nights where one performer will have to say goodbye to the rest of the housemates.
To be hosted by Nikki Gil, with Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga joining for the weekend evictions, “Pinoy Dream Academy” has successful counterparts in other countries. In France, it’s called “Star Academy.” In Russia, it’s “Factory of the Stars,” in the UK it’s Fame Academy” and “Operacion Triunfo” in Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Spain.
